As a qualified and experienced Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, I am dedicated to helping children and young people navigate both emotional and psychological challenges. Through close work with children and their families, I create a safe and supportive space where they can explore their inner world, deepen self-understanding, and build the resilience needed for more fulfilling relationships with themselves and others.
How I Work with Children
In my work, I create a safe and consistent environment where children can express themselves in various ways—whether through play, drawing, movement, or talking. I am professionally trained to listen, observe, and thoughtfully reflect on what a child brings into the session, using these insights to help them make sense of their inner world. My aim is to help children feel seen, understood, and supported in their emotional growth.
I respect each child’s age and stage of development, recognising that everyone processes feelings and experiences in their own way, which calls for careful and thoughtful understanding. My approach is both supportive and boundaried, creating a space where a child feels safe to express themselves—whether making sense of everyday thoughts or working through more difficult emotions. In time, processing and reflecting on experience can support self-awareness, confidence, and resilience, helping each child find their own way towards deeper relationships, a stronger sense of self, and the capacity and confidence to engage in the world.
Supporting Parents Throughout the Process
I believe in working collaboratively with parents to support their child’s progress. Where appropriate, I regularly meet with parents of younger children to discuss their development, share observations, and offer guidance. These meetings ensure that parents are involved and understand the therapeutic process while also respecting the child’s need for privacy and confidentiality in their sessions.
While therapy can sometimes bring up difficult emotions for both the child and the family, I work closely with parents to help them navigate any uncertainties. My role is to support both the child and the family in staying engaged with the process, ensuring that the therapy happens at a pace that feels manageable and safe for everyone involved.
Parent work with a qualified child psychotherapist can be invaluable in helping parents navigate their child’s therapeutic journey. I offer dedicated parent work to help parents understand and support their child’s therapy while also making space for their own feelings and responses.
My Professional Background
I am a qualified Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist, having completed a six-year training at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, which included a four-year full-time placement within the NHS. I have worked with individuals from infancy to young adulthood (up to 25 years), supporting a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, as well as providing guidance to parents and families.
I specialise in helping children and young people with issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, challenging behaviours (including tantrums and oppositional attitudes), developmental concerns (such as ASD and ADHD), identity struggles, substance misuse, and difficulties with eating or sleeping. I also work with separation anxiety, obsessive-compulsive behaviours, and school-related pressures across all age groups.
I also help adolescents navigate the challenges of growing independence and self-identity.
My approach is always tailored to individual needs, ensuring a thoughtful, compassionate, and effective therapeutic process.
